Anti-LGBTQ+ Protesters Target Drag Story Hour at New York Library

A group of anti-LGBTQ+ protesters assembled outside of a New York special needs library Saturday morning to disrupt a Drag Story Hour event. The protesters held signs against “grooming” and hurled slurs at people entering and leaving the Chelsea library. While the protesters reportedly were relentless, the event was able to continue on uninterrupted. There were counter demonstrators standing in between the anti-LGBTQ+ protests and the entrance. Yet no one was injured and the property remained unharmed. New York Gay Bar Attacked 3 Times in 1 Week (Video)

Hell’s Kitchen gay bar “VERS,” attacked three times in one week. Local authorities are receiving critique for being reluctant to launch a hate crime investigation. The latest attack, which took place on Nov. 19, was captured by surveillance footage and showed an unknown man hurling a brick at the establishment. This was the third time in one week that someone threw a brick at the bar and fourth total. It is unknown if the same person is responsible for all of the attacks.  Members of the community are supposedly outraged by the lack of action taken by authorities. New York: 2 dead & dozens robbed by gang that targets gay men 

New York: Criminal gang that reportedly targets gay men accused of killing two people and robbing a dozen others. The gang supposedly haunt Hell’s Kitchen nightclubs where they are suspected of drugging and robbing their victims resulting in two deaths.  Authorities have revealed that the two men that were killed, died under similar circumstances and were murdered 2 blocks apart within the same five weeks. The victims had been seen with three unknown men hours before being killed earlier this year. They were found without their phones and their accounts had been emptied. The preliminary toxicology report indicates that the two victims died from drug overdoses. Report: Hate Crimes Targeting LGBTQ People on the Rise in NYC

Community leaders and activists in New York have reported a 46% rise in violent crimes against LGBTQ people in the city. LGBTQ rights activists are now urging authorities to take action as reports of violent homophobic attacks against members of the community are increasing. In testimonies obtained by El Diario NY, members of the LGBTQ community speak of the verbal and physical harassment they’ve experienced while walking the streets of New York. Gay and transgender victims tell stories of being beaten bloody on their way home from work while their attackers utter homophobic slurs. NYC Pride Installation Helped Visitors Fax Anti-LGBTQ+ Lawmakers

In an effort to flood anti-LGBTQ+ lawmakers with faxes relating to queer love & identity. Havas New York set up an installation that allowed NYC pride attendees to fax the legislators behind the 300+ anti-LGBTQ+ bills that have been introduced this year. This was done through a series of installations featuring QR codes that allowed visitors to fax different anti-LGBTQ+ legislators directly. Legislators are by law prohibited from turning off their fax machines.  The installation consisted of a series of billboards, each one featuring a different anti-LGBTQ+ bill along with a QR code with a call-to-action.
