Locals Raise Almost $100,000 in Support of Library Defunded Over LGBTQ Books

Locals in western Michigan raised almost $100,000 in support of their town’s library after it was defunded for its inclusion of LGBTQ books. The Patmos library in Jamestown Township lost 84% of its annual budget as two-thirds of local voters rejected a proposal that would renew the libraries’ tax funding.  Last November, a group of conservatives in the western Michigan town raised questions about the LGBTQ-related books that were available in the library. Although the library agreed to take some books off the shelves, voters still chose to defund the library.  Library officials have stated that they expect to run out of money by late next year without the tax dollars. A local resident created a fundraiser two days after the announcement to help the library raise the funds....

NYC Pride Installation Helped Visitors Fax Anti-LGBTQ+ Lawmakers

In an effort to flood anti-LGBTQ+ lawmakers with faxes relating to queer love & identity. Havas New York set up an installation that allowed NYC pride attendees to fax the legislators behind the 300+ anti-LGBTQ+ bills that have been introduced this year. This was done through a series of installations featuring QR codes that allowed visitors to fax different anti-LGBTQ+ legislators directly. Legislators are by law prohibited from turning off their fax machines.  The installation consisted of a series of billboards, each one featuring a different anti-LGBTQ+ bill along with a QR code with a call-to-action. NYC pride is one of the biggest LGBTQ+ celebrations in the world and with this installation Havas New York hoped to flood legislators and bury the bills. Each installation generat...

Petition: Save Same-Sex Marriage

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said today that the court should reconsider rulings relating to same-sex marriage and contraceptives in a similar manner to Roe v. Wade. In a concurring opinion with today’s decision, Justice Thomas expressed that “in future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell.” When referencing cases that guaranteed access to contraceptives and marriage equality, Thomas says that it’s the court’s duty to ‘correct the error’ established in those precedents.” We want to make a plea to the Supreme Court to protect marriage equality. Please help by signing this petition.

How To Help LGBTQ+ Veterans

There’s an estimated 1 million veterans who identify as gay or lesbian in the United States and 134,000 who identify as transgender. Veterans are at higher risk to suffer from PTSD, substance abuse, depression, homelessness and unemployment. Members of the LGBTQ community in the U.S. are also at greater risk for homelessness, depression and substance abuse. Statistics that lead to legitimate concerns surrounding gay veterans and their well-being. In honor of memorial day, we’ve decided to compile a list of organizations that are dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ veterans and who need your support. Modern Military Association of America A non-profit organization with 85,000 members that seeks to promote fairness and equality for LGBTQ military and veteran communities. The MMAA provides pas...
