Biden to Announce Executive Actions Protecting the LGBTQ+ Community

President Biden is set to sign executive orders that target anti-LGBTQ+ legislation this Wednesday. A senior administration official has revealed that several executive actions are to be announced this afternoon that address discriminatory laws and practices that affect the LGBTQ+ community.

This comes as the Republican party has launched legislative actions across different states attacking LGBTQ+ rights. From limiting discussions about LGBTQ+ issues in schools to not allowing trans people to use restrooms, the recent assaults on the community have been relentless.

The White House has planned a Pride event this afternoon where the executive actions will be announced. It has been reported that these actions include the expansion of gender-affirming care, access to mental health services for LGBTQ+ youth, discrimination protections in the foster care system while also clarifying that federal funds can’t be used for “conversion therapy.” 

In addition to this, HHS will be tasked with providing states with guidelines on how to expand access to comprehensive healthcare for LGBTQ+ patients.  

These provisions seek to address the current difficulties & attacks that the community is facing. Specifically responding to the medical needs of the community. As there have been attempts from the republican party to limit trans-Americans access to gender-affirming care. There have also been reports that one-third of all LGBTQ+ college students have felt suicidal. 

President Biden signed an executive order on his first day in office that clarified that gay & transgender people are protected agains discrimination at work, school and other areas. While also directing federal agencies to review their anti-discrimination policies.
