Burger King’s Ad Agency Apologizes for Pride Month Ad

Rainbow capitalism gone wrong? Pride month has become a pandering opportunity for corporations that they can't seem to pass on. This year has unfortunately not been the exception. Burger King released a “Pride Whopper” ad this month that sparked a lot of controversy and the ad’s creators are now apologizing.  In Burger King Austria’s “Pride Whopper” ad the burger features two equal buns which is supposed to be a statement about equal love & equal rights. While also acting as an innuendo on Gay sex, the buns on the burgers are either both top or bottom buns.  In a recent interview Jung von Matt Donau, the agency that created the ad, apologized if anyone was offended. Adding that they believe they “messed up” by creating the ad. Although the agency’s campaign included partner...

A percentage that has doubled in the past decade according to Gallup.  When Gallup first began taking the poll in in 2005, only 21% considered their city or area as a “good place” for gay people to live. By 2014, about a third of respondents said that they’re city or area was a “good place” for gay people. The trend continued and in 2020 the figure reached 49%. This year's percentage is the highest ever recorded.  The number is based on surveys conducted in 110 countries in 2021. Amount of U.S. Gay Bars Declining

New data shows that the number of gay bars in the country is declining. Which some warn could lead to people from the LGBTQ+ community having less safe spaces to be themselves in public. Professor Greggor Mattson, who teaches Sociology at Oberlin college, made some troubling discoveries in his research. In Chicago, more than a third of all gay bars closed between 2007 and 2019. This trend seems to have been accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic as there were 38 gay bars in 2019 compared to the 26 in 2021. Showing a 23.% decrease in gay bars in Chicago over the span of two years.  This is problematic as some argue that gay bars are some of the only places within our society where LGBTQ+ people fully can be themselves in public. However, the trend seems to affect bars that primarily ta...
